Traditional rulers within and outside Bayelsa State on Monday emphasised that the history of the state will not be complete without a mention of the late Mrs. Goldcoast Dickson, in view of her invaluable contributions to the development of the state.

Spokesman of the Kerebiri Mein Kingdom in Delta State, Professor Benjamin Okaba, stated this when a delegation of traditional rulers led by the Pere of Kerebiri Mein Kingdom, His Royal Highness Godspower Oporomo, paid a condolence visit to Governor Seriake Dickson and his family in his country home, Toru Orua, Sagbama local government area of the state.

The Bayelsa governor's Special Adviser on Public Affairs, Daniel Alabrah, in a press release quoted Prof. Okaba as saying that, Mama Gogo, as she was fondly called, inculcated in Governor Dickson the qualities of kindness and compassion.

He lauded the governor for his visionary leadership and achievements, particularly in education, infrastructure and healthcare delivery.

The delegation also declared support for the cancer foundation initiative of the Dickson family.
Also the Gbarain/Ekpetiama Council of Chiefs in the state, while commiserating with Governor Dickson and his family, said his huge investment in the health sector was second to none.

The monarchs representing the Gbarain/Ekpetiama clans led by Kings Funpere Akah and Bubaraye Dakolo, said Dickson's unparalleled track record would remain indelible in the sands of time.
According to King Akah, who is the Ibenanaowei of Gbarain Kingdom, "your untiring efforts and vision to enhance the healthcare system with the provision of state-of-the-art facilities for the wellbeing of the people of the state are highly commendable.

"We the people of Gbarain Kingdom also acknowledge your recent pronouncements on your plan to set up a cancer foundation in memory of your mother and the need to join hands in sensitising the people on the dangers of cancer.

"We  pledge our support to the project to make it a success and we want to put on record that the Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme is second to none. Since the commencement of the scheme, Bayelsans, particularly those in the public sector, can attest to the effectiveness and benefits of the scheme."

The monarch expressed appreciation to the governor on the choice of Barr. Kemela Okara as Secretary to the State Government, noting that the gesture has given them a sense of belonging in the scheme of things.

He said Madam Dickson was also a daughter of the Gbarain Kingdom according to the Oproza family lineage. Also speaking, the Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama clan, King Bubaraye Dakolo expressed sadness over the passage of Mrs Dickson, describing it as a monumental loss not only to the Dickson family and Toru-Orua community but also the entire state.

He prayed God to grant the Dickson family the grace and fortitude to bear the loss.
The Ogu Divisional Council of Chiefs in  Rivers State led by Chief James Victor Nangibo was also among others that sympathised with the governor.
Responding, Governor Dickson thanked the visitors for their words of encouragement to strengthen him and his family.

The governor, who restated his commitment to the establishment of a cancer centre to immortalise his mother, said although the funding of the project would be independent of the state  government, it is aimed at stemming the scourge of cancer.
He, therefore, urged all, particularly traditional rulers, to key into the cancer advocacy as they are the closest to the people at the grassroots.
