SENATOR DOUYE DIRI EMPHASIZES YOUTH DEVELOPMENT AND POLITICAL RECONCILIATION…as he dedicates his victory to God and the People

Senator Douye Diri yesterday while answering question from the AIT crew at his residence in Abuja on the victory at the Supreme Court said the victory was by the grace of God and the support of the people of Bayelsa State who stood by him all through the period of litigation. He therefore dedicated his victory to the people and God.

Speaking on his plan for the state, Senator Diri said Youth development was a priority. He said a situation whereby youths sit at home and collect meagre stipends of twenty or thirty thousand Naira from Oil Companies was not good and that it was under developing Bayelsans. He emphasized that education and skills acquisition of the youth would be a top most priority of his administration to enable them get top paying jobs anywhere in the world.

Also speaking on what will become on Party members who have defected to the APC, Sen. Diri said it would be reconciliation, reconciliation and reconciliation with all parties and people of Bayelsa State.

Senator Diri called on the people of Bayelsa State and former President, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and the outgoing governor, His Excellency Seriake Dickson, whom he referred to as his Leaders, to join hands with his incoming administration to make the best of the efforts to develop Bayelsa State.

ASUU UniAbuja begins indefinite strike

  The University of Abuja branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike over some unresolved issues between the management and the union. Some of the issues include the illegal Advertorial for vacancy of the position of Vice Chancellor by the current vice chancellor of the institution and illegal recruitments without due Process. A statement by the Chairperson of the ASUU University of Abuja chapter, Dr Sylvanus Ugoh says the decision to embark on the indefinite strike was reached after the congress of the Chapter with approval by ASUU National.  Ugoh said after following due process in line with ASUU procedures, the Trustees and Principal Officers granted the branch the permission to proceed on an indefinite, comprehensive and total strike until the issues in contention were addressed.
