Governor Douye Diri

Newly sworn in Governor of Bayelsa State, Sen. Douye Diri has said, while hosting Media Executives in Abuja on Sunday, 23rd of February that, his principal focus is the Economy, Agriculture and Business Development. He said further that the diversification of the economy of Bayelsa State is the No. 1 priority of his government. He noted that a situation where federating units run to the Centre for monthly allocations would not augur well for the development of state economies. For this particular reason, the state government was appealing to investors to come to Bayelsa State.

Governor Diri emphasized that no investors would come and invest in an environment where peace is absent. He said this is what has informed his full disposition to total reconciliation of all aggrieved individuals and groups regardless of their political parties. He called on Timi Alaibe to put aside his grievances and join him in developing Bayelsa State for the benefit of all regardless of Party inclination. According to Diri, his Party was making frantic efforts to resolve the matter as a PDP family affair.

He said it was part of the same reason to foster peace in the state that, in spite of the provocative attacks of his supporters and those of his Deputy Governor, there was no retaliatory attacks by his supporters and those of his deputy in their various communities. Governor Diri again emphasized the call for investors to come to the state as his administration would do all that is needed to create the enabling environment for economic development and growth in the State.

Diri said his predecessor had done a lot in the area of Education and that he was going to continue to make sure that qualitative, free education is available to the children of Bayelsa State.  He said education will continue to be a solid bedrock for economic emancipation of the people of Bayelsa.

Reacting to allegation of tempering with NYSC certificate by his Deputy Governor, Sen. Lawrence Ewrudjakpo, Diri said his deputy had no case and no similarity with the APC Deputy Governorship candidate. He said as a Lawyer, he observed that his name was misspelt in the NYSC Exemption Certificate and he did the right thing by writing to the NYSC stating that his name was wrongly spelt and it was corrected. He said the Deputy Governor had instituted a libel case but as he enjoys immunity now, he can no longer sue or be sued.

The Governor was accompanied by dignitaries that included the Principal Executive Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, Hon Francis Ottah Agbo of the House of Representatives and former Chief Press Secretary to Governor Dickson, immediate past DG of the PDP Governors Forum , Earl Osaro Onaiwu, Permanent Secretary in Bayelsa State, Honourable. Moses Teibowei, Daniel Alabrah the newly appointed Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ono K. Akpe immediate past SSA To Governor Dickson amongst others.

Diri used the opportunity to thank the Media Executives and members of the Press for standing by him and his party during the legal battles they went through. He further enjoined them to reach out to him at all times as he was very accessible to them through their colleague and CPS, Danial Alabrah.
