PDP Guber Candidate, Sen. Douye Diri

The Coalition for Protection of Peoples Mandate CPPM, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare Senator Duoye Diri winner of today's governorship election in Bayelsa state.

In a statement issued in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital, the Chairman of the CPPM Comrade Osai Phillip said INEC must reject election results from places where security agencies aided thugs to destroy voting process and hijack election materials and promptly declare the candidate of the PDP, which available results from across the state indicates, is in clear lead. Osai said this will help to douse the escalating tension being generated by the election.

He said: “Without doubt, the people of Bayelsa state today willingly voted for the governorship candidate of the PDP, the ruling party in the state. “Even in the midst of the political brigandage that almost truncated the electoral process, it is clear from the voting pattern that the people of Bayelsa state used the electoral process to re-affirm their support for the PDP.

Osai, however, said attempt to rig out Senator Douye Diri will be vehemently rejected by the people. He said: "Despite the wanton intervention of the security agencies, comprising the army, the navy, the air force and the police, to influence the outcome of the elections in favour of the largely unknown governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the people of Bayelsa State stood their grounds and voted overwhelmingly for the PDP.”
