THE POLITICAL STANDPOINT OF APC GRASSROOT MOBILIZATION SAGBAMA/ EKEREMOR ON THE FORTHCOMING BAYELSA WEST SENATORIAL BYE ELECTION

THE POLITICAL STANDPOINT OF APC GRASSROOT MOBILIZATION SAGBAMA/ EKEREMOR ON THE FORTHCOMING BAYELSA WEST SENATORIAL BYE ELECTION The Chairman of APC GRASSROOT MOBILIZATION SAGBAMA/ EKEREMOR, Comrade EBIDE BROWN , after due consultation of all the members across the wards in Bayelsa West Senatorial district has come up with the notion that no politician in EKEREMOR LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA should nurse the ambition of contesting the senatorial bye election. The group maintained that the vacant seat left by SENATOR LAWRENCE EWHRUDJAKPOR the current deputy governor of Bayelsa State still belongs to SAGBAMA.  There is an amicable political arrangement and understanding between SAGBAMA and EKEREMOR, truncation of this understanding is detrimental to the political history of the two Local Government Areas. Below is the political history of representation with regards to the senate from the inception of democracy in 1999: * Senator Emmanuel Tupele-ebi Diffa :1999-2003. ( SAGBAMA) * S

I Have No Bank Account, Property Abroad, Says President Jonathan

I Have No Bank Account, Property Abroad, Says President Jonathan By Jonathan Eze Former President Goodluck Jonathan has restated his earlier stand that he does not have or operate any foreign bank account or own any property abroad. His reaction was on the heel of a report stating that the Federal Government has subpoenaed bank records for former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan in the United States of America. In a statement signed by his Spokesman, Ikechukwu Eze and made available to NATIONAL ECONOMY, Jonathan stated that his commitment to Nigeria is total. The statement reads in parts: “Our attention has been drawn to international media reports to the effect that the Federal Government of Nigeria has subpoenaed bank records for former President Goodluck Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan in the United States of America. “We aver that the Federal Government of Nigeria did not contact Dr. Jonathan or his wife before issuing these

BAYELSA INDEX CASE: FOOD MARKETS, BANKS, OTHERS EXEMPTED FROM STAY-AT-HOME ORDER The Bayelsa State government has given clarification about those exempted from the stay-at-home directive of the governor, Senator Douye Diri. Governor Diri in a state broadcast on Monday directed residents to stay at home for one-week except those rendering essential services and duties. This followed a reported case by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) of a 49-year-old female that tested positive for the COVID-19 in the state. The index case is on admission at the isolation centre of the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital in Okolobiri. The governor's acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, in a statement on Monday night, however, explained that banks, foodstuff sellers in markets and vehicles conveying foodstuff, supermarkets as well as petrol and gas stations were exempted from the stay-at-home directive. Others are pharmaceuticals outlets, telecoms services o

EX GOV DICKSON URGES BAYELSANS TO SUPPORT GOV DIRI’S MEASURES AGAINST COVID 19 ...DONATES N10M TO STATE COVID COMMITTEE    By admin My attention has been drawn to the fact that the new NCDC statistics include a confirmed COVID 19 case in Bayelsa State. This is in spite of all the sacrifices the people of Bayelsa have made, and the efforts that the Governor has made in trying to keep  Bayelsa out of the COVID 19 web. This is indeed regrettable. However, this shows that COVID 19 is now in Bayelsa and it is now time for all the leaders and the people to give concerted support to the Governor and state officials in the coordinated action against this deadly virus. I want to lend my voice to call on the good people of Bayelsa to respect and abide by all the protocols outlined by the World Health Organisation, the Federal Government and the Government of Bayelsa State with respect to personal hygiene, social distancing and  avoiding crowded places. This pandemic is a world wide t

Index Case: Gov Diri Orders One-Week Stay-At-Home In Bayelsa Patient Stable, Disputes NCDC Result By admin Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has announced a one-week stay-at-home for residents of the state following the index COVID-19 case reported by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday night. Senator Diri, who gave the directive in a state broadcast on Monday, said everyone except those on essential duties should remain at home with effect from the night of April 27 in order to effectively contain the spread of the virus in the state. In a press release by his Acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the governor said one of the five test results received for the state was positive for COVID-19, saying it was the first confirmed case in Bayelsa. Senator Diri described the patient as a 49-year-old female with a history of hypertension and diabetes, who presented with non-productive cough, headache, fever and chest pain within a

KADUNA UPDATE: KDSG extends quarantine by 30 days

Image
KADUNA UPDATE:     KDSG extends quarantine by 30 days Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has extended the quarantine orders being enforced in the state for another 30 days. The governor’s decision follows a recommendation to that effect by the State Standing Committee on Covid-19, which is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe. This is effective from today, 26th April 2020. With Covid-19 cases rising rapidly in neighbouring states and the FCT, and with strong evidence of interstate travel being a major means of spreading the virus, the Standing Committee’s evaluation is that measures to protect Kaduna State residents require further strengthening and more vigorous enforcement. Malam Nasir El-Rufai has endorsed this evaluation and has accordingly reviewed the Quarantine Orders to strengthen the provisions against unauthorised movements. The two-day window during which the restriction of movement is relaxed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays has been reduced to only o

Gov. Diri Threatens To Demolish Illegal Structures In Bayelsa Markets ....Gives Swali Traders Two-Month Grace   By admin  Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has given traders in Swali, the largest market within the Yenagoa metropolis, a two-month grace to demolish illegal structures in compliance with the state government's directive to restore sanity and public health in all markets. Governor Diri stated this on Saturday shortly after an unscheduled inspection of the market accompanied by top government officials, members of the COVID-19 Taskforce in the state and the market leaders. In a press release by his Acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, the governor said at the expiration of the period, all illegal structures yet to be demolished by the government would give way. He described as unacceptable the manner illegal structures had been erected and taken over the roads into the market despite the fact that there were over 600 unoccup

COVID-19: Bayelsa Governor Enforces Lockdown At Boundary With Delta, Rivers Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, on Friday, made unscheduled visit to the boundary points with Delta and Rivers states in furtherance of the directive on the lockdown of the state. Senator Diri, who first visited Adagbabiri, the boundary community to Patani in Delta State, virtually took the security personnel at the entry point unawares as he arrived unannounced in an unmark Hilux vehicle and without siren blaring. He immediately went into checking of vehicles coming into Bayelsa and anyone without the approved permit to be on the road was asked to turn back and prevented from entering the state. The Acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor as saying that he would embark on such surprise visits regularly to the border points to underscore the seriousness his administration attached to preventing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic into the state.

GOVERNOR DIRI SUPERVISE BORDERS, ENTRY POINTS INTO BAYELSA By admin DIRECT BAYELSA VOLUNTEERS/VIGILANTE TO JOIN FORCES TO STOP INTER-STATE TRAVELS TO BAYELSA. Governor Douye Diri has continued his inspection tour to boundaries connecting Delta , Rivers and Bayelsa in Adagbabiri,  Igbogene, and other entry points , just as he direct Bayelsa Volunteers and Vigilante services to join other security agencies to monitor and stop the inter- state travels into Bayelsa State. According a close aide to the Governor, the engagement of the Bayelsa Volunteers and Vigilante service in collaboration with other security services is to combat the influx of travelers into the state , in reaction to the outcry of Bayelsans concerning the reported corrupt practices ongoing at the borders, other entry points and to ensure strict compliance in the State.  The Governor while addressing the stranded travellers at the toll gate, said that the decision for the stoppage of inter-State travels was re

Ebebi, Set to Tackle Sylva in the 2023 Bayelsa Governorship Election

Ebebi, Set to Tackle Sylva in the 2023 Bayelsa Governorship Election By admin All is not rosy in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Bayelsa state as more internal battles unfold after their unexpected defeat at the last Governorship elections. Key members of the party have expressed displeasure and concern over the current state of the party which rather than improving on previous behaviors after similar defeats, is sadly engrossed in a power tussle and quest to control the party structure. Before, during and after the 2019 Bayelsa Governorship election, It was widely reported that the botched takeover plan by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, which informed his handpicking of Senator Degi Eremienyon as the running mate of David Lyon was to prepare the grounds for his return and take over in 2023 as governor. It is equally true that the Minister has not in any way debunked or denied  these facts despite his several statements and appearances in the

THOSE WHO SHOULD BE EXEMPTED FROM THE EXTENDED LOCKDOWNS IN NIGERIA

Image
THOSE WHO SHOULD BE EXEMPTED FROM THE EXTENDED LOCKDOWNS IN NIGERIA Suggested by Henry Osa Omoregie 1. FARMERS AND FOOD PROCESSING WORKERS Physiological needs are the basic levels of human motivations. As such, ALL those involved in food creation activities must be given free movement to their places of work - the farms. Most importantly is the fact that we are already in the planting season in most parts of the world.  Any attempt to lump farmers into the list of restricted people will spell doom for the existence of humankind in Nigeria and scores of other countries. Most food and cash crops thrive well with early cultivation. Maize, cassava, yam and dozens of other crops are examples. Allow the farmers and those processing agricultural produce to access their places of work unhindered. However, the farmers must maintain social distancing rules and observe Covid19 prevention procedures before, during and after work. 2. MEDICAL AND ALLIED WORKERS This includes ALL pharmaci

COCKEREL FOODS PROVIDE MEALS FOR ABUJA IDP'S FOR 22 DAYS; PROMISE TO CONTINUE UNTIL END OF LOCKDOWN By admin    An Abuja-based eatery, COCKEREL' Fast Foods has advised Nigerians to demonstrate their love for the less privilege, especially the Internal Displaced Persons (IDPs) during this COVID-19 lockdown period. Mr Kingsley Obokhare, the Chief Operating Officer of the eatery at Area 1, gave the advice at the sideline of daily distribution of meals to children in Durumi IDP Camp, Abuja. The programme was sponsored by the eatery in collaboration with the Corporate Kickers Sports Club (CKSC), a recreational football club, in the FCT and other well meaning Nigerians. Obokhare said that the love should be shown especially by donating food stuffs and other essential materials that could protect or meet their needs during the lockdown period. He said that the less privilege in the IDP camps needed assistance than ever before because of the stay-at-

LET DICKSON REPRESENT US - APC chieftain speaks on Bayelsa West Senatorial Bi-elections  By admin A South-South founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Richard Kpodo, has advised his party to shelve the idea of fielding a candidate for the Bayelsa West Senatorial bi-elections. Kpodoh insisted that it would be foolhardy for the APC to deploy a disorganised and demotivated structure against a highly-spirited and organised Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in the forthcoming poll. The party chief, who spoke in Port Harcourt, Rivers State at weekend, said Dickson was poised to benefit from his hardwork in holding the PDP together as one big family. He said while Dickson as a governor built a strong PDP structure, which had been inherited by his anointed successor, Governor Douye Diri, the APC leader in the state and Petroleum Minister, Chief Timipre Sylva, was pursuing a selfish agenda. He said from 2015 when Dickson defeated Sylva to clinch a second

COVID-19: Bayelsa Extends Lockdown

COVID-19: Bayelsa Extends Lockdown By admin Bayelsa State has extended the lockdown of its borders for another two weeks. Governor Douye Diri gave the directive on Tuesday evening in a press release by his Acting Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, following the expiration of the earlier two-week deadline. He said the lockdown affects inter-state vehicular movement, closure of drinking bars at night as well as night clubs. Worship centres are also affected as they have been directed to close down and hold services at home. The state had on Sunday imposed a five-day dusk-to-dawn curfew, which took effect from Monday.  The governor noted that Bayelsa was yet to record any case of COVID-19 infection but his administration was committed to taking preventive measures against the spread of the disease into the state. He added that the measures were equally necessary to prepare people of the state for any eventuality. "We are yet to record any positive case of COVID-19
