IPI NIGERIA DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RELEASE OF FIJ JOURNALIST, DANIEL OJUKWU

The Nigerian National Committee of the International Press Institute (IPI Nigeria) has again raised the alarm over the safety of journalists in the country. A press release jointly signed by Musikilu Mojeed, President, IPI Nigeria on Tobi Soniyi, Legal Adviser/Chair, Advocacy Committee, IPI Nigeria on Saturday, 4 April, 2024 said this follows the report of the abduction of Daniel Ojukwu, a journalist with the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ). According to reports, Ojukwu was abducted by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Inspector General of Police and is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti in Lagos. Newly appointed NCAOOSCE CEO charges staff on optimal productivity

The newly appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children’s Education, (NCAOOSCE), Dr Muhammad Idris has charged workers of the commission to be dedicated to duty. Idris made this known during his maiden meeting with the staff of the commission in Abuja on Friday . He said the task of solving the problem of Almajiri and out-of-school children is a collective responsibility of all citizens especially considering its security implications. The executive secretary assured the staff of his commitment to their welfare for optimal productivity. Idris also reiterated his determination to taking millions of Nigerian children off the streets in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu's administration. UniAbuja Strike: CONUA dissociates self, says action baseless

The Congress of University Academics (CONUA), University of Abuja Chapter has dissociated itself from the ongoing strike  by the university branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). The Chairman, CONUA, University of Abuja Chapter, Prof. Abdul Buba, said this when the group paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah in Abuja on Friday. UTME results: Group pledges to promote reading culture, academic excellence

As public outcry trailed the mass failure in the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the President’s Schools Debate Nigeria (PSDN) has pledged to promote a reading culture and academic excellence among Nigerian students. The Chairman, PSDN, Usman Mohammed made this known at a news conference on Friday in Abuja. Mohammed, represented by the National Coordinator, PSDN, Dare Oritu said that the organisation’s 24th edition of democracy debate, scheduled to hold in July would feature participation across all public primary and secondary schools in the country. ASUU UniAbuja begins indefinite strike

  The University of Abuja branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has declared an indefinite strike over some unresolved issues between the management and the union. Some of the issues include the illegal Advertorial for vacancy of the position of Vice Chancellor by the current vice chancellor of the institution and illegal recruitments without due Process. A statement by the Chairperson of the ASUU University of Abuja chapter, Dr Sylvanus Ugoh says the decision to embark on the indefinite strike was reached after the congress of the Chapter with approval by ASUU National.  Ugoh said after following due process in line with ASUU procedures, the Trustees and Principal Officers granted the branch the permission to proceed on an indefinite, comprehensive and total strike until the issues in contention were addressed.
